Our mission
The preservation of box turtle populations in their native habitats through education, research, and protection from over harvesting.

The Box Turtle Partnership of Texas (BTPT) is composed of herpetological organizations, nature centers, and interested groups and individuals willing to contribute time and effort to help ensure box turtles remain a natural part of the Texas landscape. To that end the BTPT educating the public about how box turtles live, conserving their habitat, and leaving box turtles in the wild.
.

One helpful thing we could do right away is to limit how many of these turtles are taken from the wild, and stop their commercial collection for the pet trade.

We encourage you to read the documents on the publications page to learn more about the status of box turtles in Texas and how you can help keep box turtles wild.  Even if it is as simple as moving a turtle off of the road in the direction it was headed.

It is very important we learn more about how box turtles are doing in Texas - we need to know where they are abundant and where they are scarce
.  This information can help wildlife managers determine over time how collection, habitat fragmentation, and loss of habitat affect box turtles.  It can also help determine whether box turtles will continue to be able to survive in the wild. If you see a box turtle in the wild please take the time to fill out the box turtle sighting form here.
